Business Ethics: There are none these days

Wow ..  new Dell with Windows 10 installed.  MS does an update for W10 ......... the new Dell dies.  $146 to buy the password from MS ($40), then to load all the data .... $106 (includes sales tax) ...  trouble is this is the 3rd time with this computer and a the W10 updates.

The computer guy said MS acknowleged that the last update crashed many computers across the world ;...  yet MS still charging $40 to resend the password required ............ highway robbery.  It wasn't my password, but a 6 digit number sequence.

Adobe, as previously reported was no help.  $2600 program Adobe Photoshop Master Design allowed 3 downloads / installs.  One to the desktop (crashed with W10 update), one to the laptop (had to install it twice with 2 W10 crashes) ......... so I"m screwed.  Adobe wants more money.

LooseFatNashville.  I enrolled $2300 and unlimted use until you loose your weight.  The first 3 weeks I lost 18 of the 40 (I travel a lot and could not follow the program on travel days as access to the prescribed food was not an option) .. So lost on my days off ........ On their video advertising the owner actually says "no extra charge if it goes beyound 30 days" ... so they got me ....... hell of a guarantee if you honor it .........WHICH THEY REFUSED TO DO" ..........  they wanted $1545.00 more ......    No ethics there.  They knew what I do for a living yet they would not extend the program ... their program does NOT provide the food .. just the liquid drops that are on sale at Amazon for less than $100 for both solutions.  Since I dropped this POS company, I've yo-yo on the weight but I've found I stablize, then loose 5 more by not eating all the fat, or at least smaller portions.

ASPEN DENTAL:  on the window of their office  $19 for complete dental exrays and evaluation.  Great, I did that and they charged $23 or so (sales tax).  But then they find out I have dental insurance and wham ...  not only do they use that, but they want another $54 from me .... this after I sat in the waiting room 2 more times for teeth cleaning which never got done ... I have a 10:30 appointment and at 11:30 still not seeing it happening .. so I leave.

So many examples of no ethics .......  anyway ... I've learned ... don't be bashful, get detailed explanations in writing on sound recording of them putting their guarantees.

Get it in detailed writing, and support that with audio / video support.

Back on Line with the Blog, Window 10 sucks

We installed new computers and as you probably know, all software must be reinstalled.  Windows 10 caused the failure of 2 laptops, twice.  Windows 10 is another failure, just like Windows 8, both being released without all the designed operations NOT operating.  If you are thinking of installing W10 as an Upgrade ............. DON"T.  It will cause a total failure of your computer.  It happened twice here.   It was very expensive.  One of our high end software programs, Adobe Master Design Photography / Video software ($2600.00) allowed 3 installs, no more.  It was installed on the laptop and desktop 3 years ago.  When W10 upgrade was installed the computer failed.  Tech Support reinstalled W8 and Adobe (install #3).  After the announcement that W10 Upgrade was fixed, it was installed again, along with MS Office 365.  Within hours, total computer failure.   We purchased new computers that came with W10.  No Adobe installs left, so I'm left with a ok but not very good Photoshop 14 / Premier. $2600 will buy 6 AR15's or 2 AR10's ...

Another think about Windows 10.  It wants to take over.  It took nearly 400 GB of my pictures and sent them to the CLOUD, without my knowledge.  It took a while to disable the ONE PLACE as it's called.  I reloaded the pictures.  If you pay for the internet by the GB, this involuntary upload could be very expensive.

Thanks for coming for a visit.

I am a veteran.  My family has a long history of serving in the Miltary, as far back at the Revolutionary War, 1776 and before.  Veteran's Day if for military vets, not any other public service.  Thank Our Vets ... hand shake, buy a meal, treat them with respect.   A friend of mine posted this and I feel it says a lot.  We have so many freedoms that many take for granted.  Don't do that, FREEDOM IS NOT FREE.

To the men and women of the United States armed forces, past and present:

My family and I live in Eau Claire, Wisconsin because we choose to. My children go the school that my wife and I have chosen. We can go anywhere we like, whenever we want, as often as we like. My job is one that I chose, having dreamed about since I was a child. I went to the college of my choice and studied the subject matter of my own choosing. I have the right to say whatever is on my mind whenever I feel the need. No one tells me what religion I must practice, what person or institution I must show allegiance to, or how to live my life. I have more rights of freedom than any other citizen of any country on Earth. All of this is because of your service to our country. On this Veterans Day, I THANK YOU for your service, your dedication, and your selflessness.

Thank You to all our Veterans, all services, all jobs you do and have done.

Emergency Revocation of Treaties and Rights?

“All politicians will allow, and most philosophers, that reasons of state may, in particular emergencies, dispense with the rules of justice, and invalidate any treaty or alliance, where the strict observance of it would-be prejudicial, in a considerable degree, to either of the contracting parties. But nothing less than the most extreme necessity is confessed, can justify individuals in a breach of promise, or an invasion of the properties of others.

David Hume, An Enquiry Concerning the Principles of Morals, 1777

I'm not sure how to "interpret"  that statement.  I saw instances in the Boston Bomber terrorist investigation / house to house search, of MARTIAL LAW.  I objected to that.  It was a clear violation of the law subjecting many citizens to warrantless searches, and it showed that the police, in large numbers, will / can run through the Constitution at will.  Perhaps they felt the terrorist was part of a cell of terrorism, which may change the way I'd look at it, but no public statement, to my knowledge, was made to support that option.

It seems to me that was a test run using the Boston Bomber as an excuse.

1700's Islam described as violent

This quote about Islam from 1703-1791 by John Wesley. “Ever since the religion of Islam appeard in the world, the espousers of it … have been as wolves and tigers to all other nations, rending and tearing all that fell into their merciless paws, and grinding them with their iron teeth; that numberless cities are raised from the foundation, and only their name remaining that countries which were once as the garden of GOD are now a desolate wilderness; and that so many once numerous and powerful nations are vanished from earth! Such was, and is at this day, the rage, the fury, the revenge, of these destroyers of human kind.”

Technology and the users

“Technology is a blessing for those who understand it and can develop and maintain it. It can be a nightmare for those who can only depend on getting it “off the shelf”. If it malfunctions they are lost. Tools, supplies, and technological equipment should play a part in anyone’s survival plans, but they should not play a part that overreaches the person’s ability to deal with it.”

Karl Hess, A Common Sense Strategy for Survivalists, P.37, 1981.

The German Kaiser and the Swiss Soldier

Shortly before World War 1, the German Kaiser was the guest of the Swiss government to observe military maneuvers. The Kaiser asked a Swiss militiaman: “You are 500,000 and you shoot well, but if we attack with 1,000,000 men what will you do?” The soldier replied “We will shoot twice and go home”. Historian Stephen P. Halbrook, as quoted by Bill Buppert in ZeroGov: Limited Government, Unicorns and Other Mythological Creatures.
